The Ottumwa Community School District is proud to recognize two of its outstanding students for their exceptional achievement in mathematics.

In partnership with the Iowa Department of Education, the National Math Stars program honors the state’s most advanced young mathematicians. Each year, students who score in the top 2% statewide on the Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress are invited to apply for this prestigious distinction.

Two Ottumwa fourth graders, Addie Podliska and Rafael Ochoa, earned this remarkable honor last spring as third graders. Their achievement places them among the very best mathematicians in the state of Iowa at their grade level.

“This recognition reflects not only their remarkable talent and hard work, but also the dedication of their teachers, the encouragement of their families, and the support of our district in fostering a love for learning,” said Superintendent McGrory.

The district invites the community to join in congratulating Addie and Rafael on being named National Math Stars. Their success highlights the bright futures ahead of them and the continued excellence of Ottumwa students.
