Mini Pitch at Liberty

Mini Pitches at EvansAs part of our district’s commitment to Be The Best, we’re proud to provide safe and well-maintained outdoor spaces for students and families to exercise, have fun, and learn important skills.

In the past year we’ve worked with Oskaloosa-based Musco Lighting to install six Mini-Pitch System™ modular sports systems, with three more coming in 2024.  You may have seen these and been curious to know more about them – here are a few details.

What are they?

Each mini-pitch is equipped for basketball and soccer – or specifically, a faster-paced, 5-on-5 version of soccer called futsal. They come with built-in lighting, fencing, goals, benches, custom surfacing, and other amenities to prioritize safety, fun, and durability.

Who are they for?

Simply put, they’re for you! They’re ideal for pickup games, youth sports clinics, community programs, and any number of other uses – so stay safe and have fun.

How do they celebrate the community?

Our mini-pitches are custom-designed with the Ottumwa Schools colors and logo to celebrate the district and spread community spirit.

The Dr. Jeff Hendred Mini-Pitch at Wilson Elementary School is named in honor of Dr. Jeff Hendred, our current principal at Liberty Elementary, who has shown tremendous commitment to education and recreation within the district.

“Our partnership with Musco has provided the community with resources that allow kids and families to get outdoors and stay active in an environment that’s fun, safe, and well-maintained,” said Superintendent Michael McGrory. “The Mini-Pitch System™ truly does set our community apart and will help us reach our goal to ‘Be The Best.’”
